Wannabe race drivers don’t need to compete on a racing circuit. Almost anyone can rent a kart for a short session at an indoor track in many cities across the U.S.
wannabe：（= want to like）
Indoor racing kart tracks are usually built in old factory or warehouse buildings. These businesses attract people who want to drive for fun. They host all kinds of groups, for business outings to kids’ birthday celebrations and other private parties. Tracks have short straight sections and tight corners to make driving exciting. An electronic scoreboard posts everyone’s lap times, creating lots of excitement.
Indoor racing really became popular with the invention of the electric kart around the year 2000. Up to that point, gasoline engines powered the karts. These created terrible fumes that even big fans could not completely get rid of. But powerful electric motors put an end to the fumes. Now more and more people are coming to the tracks to sit on a kart and zoom around. Such an experience really does satisfy a need for speed.
