After a year’s wait, we can soon see Jennifer Lawrence back in her signature role, The Hunger Games’ Katniss Everdeen. Both Lawrence and Katniss are “Girls on Fire” in their own ways; it’s surprising to see how they compare and contrast.

Origin Story

Katniss lives in District 12, an imagined future version of Lawrence’s home state, Kentucky, yet the two places are different worlds. While Katniss struggled to provide for her family, Lawrence’s parents provided for her as she struggled through school. “I always felt dumber than everybody else,” says Lawrence. “School just kind of killed me.”

But both girls were suddenly removed from these situations – one forced and the other willing. Katniss entered the Hunger Games, and Lawrence spent a summer in New York City looking for acting jobs. In both cases, the event came about because of siblings although in different ways. Katniss volunteered in place of her sister, and Lawrence’s brothers spoke up when their parents tried to make her quit. “You’d do this for us if this were sports, and this is her baseball diamond.”
